Sevilla manager Garcia Pimienta has shed light on his decision to leave Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho on the bench for the entirety of Monday’s 1-1 La Liga draw against Osasuna.

Iheanacho, named among the substitutes, was widely expected to feature but was ultimately overlooked. Pimienta explained that injuries to other squad members played a significant role in shaping his tactical decisions during the match.
“I would have liked to have everyone available. I would have brought on more players if I could have,” Pimienta said post-match. “Kelechi couldn’t come on because of Lokonga’s discomfort, and Agoumé had to step in instead.”
The Sevilla boss praised other squad members who rose to the occasion, particularly veteran Saúl Ñíguez, whose experience helped steady the team in challenging circumstances. “Saúl is a very experienced player. He came to help and contribute important things. He has had a very good recovery process and played a good game in a situation that was not easy. He has a lot to offer us,” Pimienta added.
Youngster Peque Polo also earned plaudits for his performance. “Peque had a very complete game. He is capable of playing between the lines and getting to the opponent’s goal,” said the Sevilla boss.
Meanwhile, Iheanacho, 28, has featured seven times in La Liga this season. Fans will hope to see him return to action as Sevilla looks to climb the league table.
