Alexander Isak’s availability for Newcastle United’s upcoming match against Liverpool remains uncertain after he sustained a painful hip injury during the 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace.

The Sweden international was forced off after just 22 minutes at Selhurst Park, replaced by Harvey Barnes following the knock.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe confirmed that Isak has not participated in training since the injury, though he played down concerns over its severity. “He took a knock to his hip and wasn’t able to carry on,” Howe explained at his Tuesday press conference. “We haven’t seen him in training yet, but I don’t think it’s a long-term injury. We’ll wait and see. It’ll depend on time and pain management.”
Isak, however, sounded optimistic about his recovery, telling beIN Sports, “I am fine. It was really painful, a bad knock, but I’ve responded well.” Howe is hopeful that the striker will be available soon, though it’s still unclear if he will be fit in time for the clash with Liverpool.
In other injury news, defender Dan Burn is still struggling with an ankle issue but is expected to play against Liverpool. Despite the pain, Burn managed to get through the match against Palace without issue. Howe noted that Burn had limited training while recovering but was impressed by his performance against Palace.
After a disappointing loss to West Ham and the last-minute draw with Palace, Newcastle will face a tough challenge against Premier League leaders Liverpool. Howe remains confident in his side’s ability to bounce back, especially in home games. “We’re always confident at home,” Howe said. “Regardless of the opponent, we have to be our best selves and find ways to evolve and improve.”
Newcastle has shown resilience with notable wins against Chelsea and Arsenal recently, and Howe believes there’s no reason they can’t continue their positive form when facing the league’s top team.
