Erik ten Hag could return to the dugout soon, with reports suggesting RB Leipzig is eyeing him as a potential replacement for under-fire manager Marco Rose.

Leipzig’s recent struggles include a dismal run of five losses and a draw in their last six matches across all competitions. Their most recent defeat, a crushing 5-1 loss to Wolfsburg at home, has intensified pressure on Rose, despite the team sitting fourth in the Bundesliga standings.
According to Sky Germany, Leipzig’s management is considering Ten Hag as a candidate should they decide to part ways with Rose. The Dutchman, who was dismissed by Manchester United in October after a lackluster start to his third season, is among a shortlist of possible replacements.
During his tenure at Old Trafford, Ten Hag led the team to FA Cup and Carabao Cup victories but fell short in the Premier League and Champions League, leading to his exit. He was succeeded by Ruben Amorim, who arrived from Sporting Lisbon.
Despite his mixed record at United, Ten Hag remains a respected figure in European football. Leipzig’s decision could also hinge on other options, including Roger Schmidt, who left Benfica in August. However, reports suggest Schmidt might be reluctant to take on a managerial role mid-season.
Whoever steps into the Leipzig role next month will also collaborate with Jurgen Klopp, who is set to begin his new position as Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer on January 1.
Since leaving Manchester United, Ten Hag has maintained a low profile but reached out to fans with a heartfelt message. Through The United Stand, he expressed gratitude for the support he received during his time at the club:
“Dear fans, let me start by thanking you. Whether it was at a game far away or a tough match at Old Trafford, your support was unwavering. The electrifying atmosphere, especially during away games where your chants took over opponents’ stadiums, was unforgettable,” Ten Hag wrote.
He reflected on his time with the Red Devils, cherishing the two trophies won under his leadership but expressing regret over not achieving more:
“We won two trophies—achievements I will cherish forever. My dream was to bring more trophies to United, but sadly, that dream has ended. I wish nothing but success and glory for Manchester United and its fans.”
As Leipzig considers its next steps, Ten Hag’s name remains prominent, signaling that his chapter in elite European football is far from over.
