In his absence, Stefan Ortega made his first Premier League start of the season, but Guardiola has not ruled out keeping Ortega in goal for upcoming matches.
“Ederson is Man City’s No. 1, and Stefan is No. 2,” Guardiola confirmed on Tuesday. “But maybe Stefan will continue, we will see tomorrow and in future games.”
When asked about Ederson’s reaction to being dropped, Guardiola stated: “He took it really well. We’ve known each other for eight or nine years.”
Guardiola remains optimistic about his squad’s potential, stressing that once all players are fully fit, City can return to their usual high standard. “With the full squad, we will be close to the level we reached last season,” he said. “We’re not far from the second-best team in the league, but consistency and performance in key areas will determine our future.”
