AC Milan manager Paulo Fonseca has urged Samuel Chukwueze to improve the defensive aspects of his game as the Nigeria international continues to adapt to life in Serie A.

After struggling for consistency last season, Chukwueze has seen an uptick in his performances this term. However, Fonseca has highlighted defensive play as a key area where the winger needs to grow.
The Milan coach confirmed that USA international Yunus Musah will start in place of Chukwueze in the crucial match against Atalanta on Friday.
“Musah will play,” Fonseca stated in a pre-match press conference. “I think we’ve prepared well for this match. Atalanta’s style is clear—they excel in both attack and defence. It will be a tactical battle, but I believe we’re ready for it.”
Fonseca praised Chukwueze’s attitude and progress but explained why Musah offers the edge defensively. “Chukwueze is adapting well and has an impressive attitude. While he’s not as strong defensively as Musah, he can still perform similarly in certain games,” the coach added.
As Chukwueze continues to settle at Milan following his move from Villarreal, Fonseca’s challenge could be the catalyst for the winger to elevate his all-around game.
