Sporting Lisbon’s star striker Viktor Gyokeres, who has set Europe alight with his remarkable scoring form, has caught the attention of several top clubs.

Among the suitors are Manchester United and Arsenal, but ex-Premier League midfielder Emmanuel Petit believes Arsenal would be the perfect destination for the Swedish forward.
Gyokeres has been in sensational form since joining Sporting Lisbon, netting an incredible 67 goals in 71 games, including three hat-tricks this season alone. His standout performances, including a treble against Manchester City in the Champions League, have solidified his reputation as one of Europe’s elite strikers.
Reports suggest Manchester United, now under former Sporting boss Ruben Amorim, are frontrunners to secure the 26-year-old’s signature. However, Petit questions why Gyokeres would opt for a move to Old Trafford given the club’s current struggles.
Speaking to Gambling Zone, Petit explained: “Why would Viktor Gyokeres look at the situations at Arsenal and Manchester United and choose United? I know his former manager is there, but United already have Hoijlund, Zirkzee, and Rashford competing for his position.”
Petit sees Arsenal as a much more appealing option, citing their need for a reliable forward to bolster their Premier League title challenge. “Arsenal is a far more attractive proposition. Havertz isn’t a natural number nine, and Gabriel Jesus hasn’t been performing consistently,” Petit said.
“Gyokeres could be the final piece of the puzzle for Arsenal. His hold-up play and ability to operate away from goal would perfectly complement Mikel Arteta’s system.”
Sporting Lisbon, aiming for back-to-back Portuguese league titles, has experienced a slight dip in form, including a 5-1 defeat to Arsenal. Gyokeres, while not at his prolific best in recent games, remains a central figure in their attack.
With the January transfer window approaching, the decision on Gyokeres’ next move could prove pivotal for both the player and the clubs chasing his signature. Arsenal’s growing potential and their quest for a Premier League crown may just edge them ahead in the race for his services.
