Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler is optimistic about Danny Welbeck’s availability for their upcoming Premier League fixture against Leicester City on Sunday.

Welbeck, who has been instrumental for Brighton this season with six goals in 13 league appearances, missed the Seagulls’ 3-1 defeat to Fulham on Thursday. The forward was absent due to a minor issue sustained during a previous match against Southampton.

Speaking after the Fulham loss, Hurzeler expressed confidence in Welbeck’s swift recovery. “It is a small issue that he got after conceding a foul against Southampton,” the Brighton boss explained. “We have to take care of him, but hopefully, he will be back on Sunday.”

Brighton struggled without Welbeck at Craven Cottage. Alex Iwobi gave Fulham an early lead in the fourth minute, but Brighton responded with a stunning long-range strike from Carlos Baleba to level the score. However, an own goal by Matt O’Riley in the 79th minute restored Fulham’s advantage, and Iwobi sealed the win with his second goal late in the match.

The loss leaves Brighton in fifth place on the Premier League table as they prepare to face Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Leicester City, who recently defeated West Ham 3-1 in Van Nistelrooy’s debut as manager.

Brighton will be eager to bounce back from their disappointing performance against Fulham, and having Welbeck back in the squad could provide a crucial boost. Fans will hope their star striker is ready to make an impact as the Seagulls aim to solidify their position among the league’s top teams.
