The 25-year-old Argentine has been a standout performer for Liverpool since his £55 million move from Brighton in June 2023, helping propel the Reds to the top of the Premier League.
Mac Allister’s Strong Liverpool Start and Impressive Form
Mac Allister’s debut season at Liverpool was nothing short of impressive, and under manager Arne Slot, he has continued to thrive.
In the 2024/25 campaign, he has become an essential part of Slot’s midfield, contributing both defensively and offensively.
His performance in Liverpool’s 2-0 Champions League win over Real Madrid last month, where he scored his second goal of the season, further highlighted his growing influence.
The Dream to Play in La Liga
While Mac Allister has been a key figure at Liverpool, he has made no secret of his admiration for Spain.
In a recent interview with AS, when asked about his potential future in La Liga, he didn’t hesitate to express his interest. “Yes, why not?” Mac Allister said.
“It’s a country I like a lot and I’ve visited it several times. The language and culture are very similar to Argentina, and I would definitely like to play in Spain one day.”
Content at Liverpool, No Rush to Leave
Despite his dream of playing in Spain, Mac Allister was quick to emphasize his current commitment to Liverpool.
“Right now, I’m very comfortable at Liverpool, and I don’t think about what might happen in the future,” he clarified.
This marks a stark contrast to rumors over the summer when Real Madrid was reportedly considering him as a replacement for the retiring Toni Kroos.
At that time, Mac Allister made it clear that he wasn’t looking to leave Anfield, stating, “I’m very happy at Liverpool and think these speculations are unnecessary.”
Liverpool’s Desire to Keep Mac Allister and Other Key Players
Mac Allister also revealed that Jurgen Klopp has reassured him of his importance at Liverpool.
“Klopp told me I’m in the right club to grow,” Mac Allister shared. “When he left, he gave me a hug and said it was a pity we couldn’t spend more time together. I am happy and very comfortable at Liverpool.”
While Mac Allister seems set to stay for the foreseeable future, Liverpool is facing a bigger challenge ahead, as key players like Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold all have contracts expiring at the end of the season.
