Jamie Carragher, Liverpool legend and now a prominent football pundit, has cast doubt on Chelsea’s ability to secure the Premier League title this season.

Despite the Blues sitting second in the table, just two points behind Liverpool with a game in hand for the Reds, Carragher believes Chelsea lacks the key components needed to emerge as champions.

Speaking on The Overlap with Sky Bet, Carragher singled out goalkeeper Robert Sanchez as a potential weak link.

“When I think of teams who win the title, the goalkeeper is such a big thing,” he remarked. Reflecting on his playing days at Liverpool, Carragher noted, “We never had a ‘keeper on the level of Peter Schmeichel, Edwin van der Sar, or Petr Cech.

It wasn’t until Liverpool brought in Alisson that they finally won the league. That’s my thing with Chelsea this season.

They’ve been so impressive, but I just can’t picture Sanchez lifting the Premier League trophy.”

Carragher further elaborated on Chelsea’s title prospects during an appearance on Sky Sports earlier in the week.

He highlighted their upcoming game against Everton at Goodison Park as a critical test. “It might seem like a straightforward match – Chelsea near the top and Everton near the bottom – but Goodison Park is a tough place to play,” he said.

According to Carragher, defensive frailties could be Chelsea’s undoing. “If your goalkeeper or your two centre-backs aren’t at their best, a place like Everton can expose that,” he warned.

However, he did concede that a clean sheet and a win in such challenging circumstances could signal Chelsea’s resilience and readiness to compete at the highest level.

Chelsea’s title aspirations will likely hinge on how they navigate such tricky fixtures, but for Carragher, significant doubts remain about their ability to go the distance.
