Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has hinted that Ben Chilwell and Carney Chukwuemeka could be among the first players to request transfers in the January window.

The duo has struggled for regular minutes this season, sparking speculation about their futures at Stamford Bridge.

Chilwell’s Ongoing Struggles

Ben Chilwell has endured a frustrating campaign at Chelsea, with his only appearance under Enzo Maresca coming in a 45-minute showing during the Carabao Cup victory over Barrow in September.

Once a regular starter, the 27-year-old England international has been relegated to training alone earlier this season, a clear signal of his diminished status within the squad.

Despite reported interest from clubs like Manchester United, Napoli, Fenerbahce, and West Ham, a summer transfer failed to materialize. With January approaching, a move away seems increasingly likely for the out-of-favor left-back.

Chukwuemeka’s Limited Role

Unlike Chilwell, Carney Chukwuemeka has seen slightly more involvement but remains absent from Premier League action. The 21-year-old winger has featured sporadically in other competitions, though this has done little to solidify his place in the team.

Maresca acknowledges that players like Chukwuemeka, who work tirelessly in training but lack significant game time, may seek opportunities elsewhere during the winter window to progress their careers.

Maresca’s View on Potential Departures

Speaking about the possible exits, Maresca was candid about the dissatisfaction of players with limited roles. “Players like Chilwell and Carney haven’t had many opportunities across competitions,” he said.

“Naturally, they might feel inclined to explore options elsewhere for regular game time. We will evaluate each case and work with them to find a suitable solution.”

The Future for Chelsea’s Youngsters

Maresca also discussed the prospects of young talents such as Marc Guiu, Josh Acheampong, and Tyrique George, who have yet to make a significant impact at the senior level.

The manager stressed the value of staying at Chelsea to grow under his system. “For young players, staying with us helps them adapt to our style and develop every day,” Maresca explained. “However, if they wish to play more minutes, we will sit with them to decide what’s best.”
