United secured a 2-1 victory against Manchester City in May, with goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo sealing their triumph at Wembley. However, behind the scenes, staff were left frustrated by cost-cutting measures introduced by INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Previously, staff members received multiple tickets for friends and family, along with food, accommodation, and transportation to the venue.
But for the final, these perks were drastically reduced. Employees were given just one ticket and were required to pay a £20 return fare for coach transport to Wembley.
According to The Athletic, Fernandes was shocked by the club’s decision and offered to personally cover the cost of these benefits. Despite his willingness to help, the board declined his proposal.
United’s struggles extend beyond finances, as they currently sit 13th in the Premier League after a crushing 3-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth. Manager Ruben Amorim acknowledged the team’s difficult position and vowed to address the issues.
Speaking ahead of their Boxing Day clash with Wolves, Amorim emphasized the importance of improvement: “We cannot let this situation become normal. Since I arrived, it’s been my responsibility, and we must focus on what to do for the future.”
Amorim added that while the challenges are significant, he remains committed to solving them step by step: “I know what needs to be done. It’s frustrating, like it is for the fans, but we will fight to turn things around.”
As United navigate this tough period, the disappointment over the FA Cup final cuts underscores the tensions behind the scenes at the club.
