The Super Eagles of Nigeria departed for Libya on Sunday morning, gearing up for their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualifying match against the Mediterranean Knights, set to take place on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.
After securing a 1-0 victory over Libya on Friday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, thanks to a late goal from Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Nigeria is now looking to repeat the success as they face the Libyan side again in the second leg of the qualifiers. The match is scheduled to kick off at 8 PM Nigerian time.
Originally, the Super Eagles were slated to land in Tripoli and embark on a two-hour road journey to Benghazi. However, to avoid additional travel strain, the plan was revised, and the team will now fly directly to Benghazi after a brief stopover in Kano.
The upcoming match will take place at the 10,000-capacity Martyrs of Benina Stadium, located just 10 kilometers from Benghazi. With two wins and a draw from their previous three encounters, Nigeria aims to maintain their unbeaten run in the AFCON qualifying series and edge closer to securing their spot in the 2025 tournament.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Cape Verdean official Delgado Santos Rocha Lenine to oversee the match, assisted by compatriots Djêry Gomes Lopes and Jorge Santos Fonseca Aritson. Burkina Faso’s Hamidou Diero will serve as the fourth official, while Amir Abdi Hassan from Somalia is the match commissioner. Malian Dramane Dante will act as the referee assessor, and Algerian official Rachid Medjiba will oversee security arrangements.
