Nigeria will face Libya in a crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Friday evening at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo. The Super Eagles are looking to maintain their unbeaten run in the qualifiers, while Libya will be seeking their first win to reignite their chances of qualification.

Match Preview

Nigeria began their AFCON qualifying campaign with a comfortable 3-0 win over Benin Republic, followed by a goalless draw against Rwanda. Sitting at the top of Group D with four points, the Super Eagles have yet to concede a goal in the competition. Another win against Libya could solidify their position and bring them closer to qualification. Nigeria also has a strong history against Libya, having won all four previous meetings, including two in the 2018 AFCON qualifiers.

Libya, however, has had a more challenging start. A 1-1 draw against Rwanda and a 2-1 loss to Benin leaves them at the bottom of Group D with just one point. Despite taking an early lead in their match against Benin, they were undone by two quick second-half goals. Milutin Sredojevic’s men are desperate for points, as they look to qualify for their first AFCON tournament since 2012.

Team News

  • Nigeria: Nigeria will be without star striker Victor Osimhen and defender Olisah Ndah due to injuries. However, Ademola Lookman, who scored a brace in their last home match, will be a key player in attack. Sevilla’s Chidera Ejuke also returns after a long absence, and Bright-Osayi Samuel is back in the squad following injury. The defense, anchored by William Troost-Ekong and Calvin Bassey, will aim to keep another clean sheet.
  • Libya: Libya will miss key defenders Ahmed Al-Tarbi, Mohammed Al-Tabbal, and Ali Yousse due to injuries. Ahmed Kraouaa is expected to lead the attack, though he is yet to score in the qualifiers. Libya will need a solid defensive performance to contain Nigeria’s dangerous forwards.

Predicted Lineups

  • Nigeria: Nwabali; Ekong, Ajayi, Bassey; Aina, Ndidi, Onyedika, Onyemaechi; Lookman, Boniface, Chukwueze
  • Libya: Al Wuhayshi; Elkouri, Yusuf, Erteiba, Al Mabrouk; Al Badri, Al Shreimy; Salama, Al Khoja, Al Gleib; Krawaa

Prediction

Nigeria, with their depth and attacking quality, are clear favorites to win this match. Libya has struggled in recent games and will face a tough challenge in Uyo. Expect Nigeria to secure a comfortable victory, with a scoreline around 2-0 or 3-0.
