Mikel Arteta is set to face Alexander Isak, Arsenal’s primary transfer target, during tonight’s Carabao Cup semi-final against Newcastle.

Ahead of the clash, Arteta praised Isak, calling him a “top player in top form” as the Swedish striker continues his impressive run, netting his seventh goal in seven games during Newcastle’s recent 2-1 win over Tottenham.

Arsenal’s attacking concerns have grown, especially after Bukayo Saka’s hamstring injury, leaving Arteta scrambling for reinforcements in the January transfer window.

Adding to the challenges, Ethan Nwaneri, who had been making significant progress, is now sidelined following a setback during Arsenal’s 1-1 draw at Brighton.

Arteta lamented Nwaneri’s situation, saying, “He has earned the right to step up and play for us… I’m gutted for him because it’s going to stop that a little bit. But it’s another step in his development phase, and I’m happy with his progress.”

Arsenal’s pursuit of Isak dates back to his time at Real Sociedad, but Newcastle’s steep valuation makes a January move unlikely.

With Isak’s form posing a serious threat tonight, Arteta emphasized, “Minimizing the opposition’s strengths is always part of the plan.”

The Gunners’ depleted squad faces an uphill battle, but Arteta remains determined to navigate the challenges and secure a vital win.
