Crystal Palace have adjusted their valuation of England defender Marc Guehi, creating an opening for Chelsea to pursue a return for the 24-year-old. Despite the reduced price, Palace have dismissed Chelsea’s initial offer, deeming it insufficient.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is eager to strengthen his defensive options after injuries to Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile left gaps in the squad.

The team’s form has faltered recently, with just two points from four festive fixtures, leaving them 10 points adrift of Premier League leaders Liverpool.

In response to the defensive challenges, Chelsea recalled Aaron Anseliminio from a loan spell and are reportedly considering the same for Trevoh Chalobah.

However, Guehi remains a top target, as the former Chelsea academy product has developed into one of the Premier League’s most reliable center-backs.

Palace previously rejected multiple bids from Newcastle United for Guehi, the last reaching £65 million. While their initial valuation stood at £70 million, they have now dropped it to £55 million due to Guehi’s contract nearing its final 18 months.

The England international’s standout performances at Euro 2024 bolstered his reputation, with clubs like Liverpool, Manchester United, and Newcastle showing interest last summer.

Guehi, who captains Palace and has demonstrated leadership and composure, is reportedly eager to join a Champions League club.

Chelsea are expected to improve their bid, but competition from other top clubs could complicate negotiations.

Teddy Sheringham, a former Manchester United forward, praised Guehi’s qualities during England’s run to the Euro 2024 final, suggesting he could excel at Old Trafford.

As Guehi’s future remains uncertain, Chelsea will need to act decisively to bolster their defensive ranks and remain competitive in the Premier League title race
