Nuno Mendes is reportedly keen on making a move to Manchester United after rejecting a contract extension from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
The 22-year-old Portuguese left-back, who was once nurtured by United’s manager Ruben Amorim at Sporting CP, has become a target for the Premier League club as they seek to strengthen their left flank.
Mendes’ career at PSG began with a loan move from Sporting CP, and the French champions later made the deal permanent for £34 million.
Despite struggling with a significant hamstring injury last season, Mendes has returned to form this year, making 17 appearances under PSG’s manager Luis Enrique.
According to French outlet FootMercato, PSG has offered Mendes a new contract, but the defender has turned it down, signaling his interest in reuniting with Amorim at Old Trafford.
However, the report states that there is no chance PSG will let Mendes leave during the January transfer window, with the French club planning to continue negotiations to extend his stay.
If the situation remains unresolved, PSG may be forced to sell Mendes in the summer to avoid losing him on a free transfer next year.
Meanwhile, other potential departures from Manchester United include Marcus Rashford, whose agent is reportedly in talks with AC Milan over a loan move, and Joshua Zirkzee, who is linked with a transfer away from Old Trafford as negotiations with Juventus have cooled.
Mendes’ potential move to United would be a significant addition to their defense, especially under the guidance of a manager who is familiar with his talents from their time together at Sporting CP.
