Ashley Young, 39, a familiar name to fans and a former England international with 39 caps, will line up for Everton. However, his 18-year-old son, Tyler, hopes to steal the spotlight in this unprecedented father-son clash.

Who Is Tyler Young?

Tyler Young is a rising star playing as a midfielder for Peterborough United in League One, two tiers below his father’s Everton.

Joining Peterborough in 2024, Tyler wears the No.38 shirt and made his senior debut in October during a 2-0 EFL Trophy win over Stevenage. To date, it remains his only first-team appearance.

Before joining Peterborough, Tyler spent a decade in Arsenal’s Hale End academy, starting his journey at just nine years old. Released in 2023, he found his way to Peterborough and now stands on the brink of his second senior appearance—potentially against his father in the FA Cup.

What Have Ashley and Tyler Said?

When asked about family loyalties, Ashley revealed to talkSPORT, “No one’s wearing Everton shirts in the family; they’ve all leaned towards Tyler.

Even my parents are backing him. I’m just out here cheering for myself, but I get it. After the game, they’ll be on my side when we win. Anything can happen in the FA Cup, but on the pitch, he’s just another opponent.”

Tyler, on the other hand, cherishes the moment. “Facing my dad in the FA Cup, a competition I’ve loved since childhood, is surreal.

Winning would be unforgettable, not just because it’s against Everton, but because it’s against my dad.”

He added, “I want to do more than my dad has achieved. If we win tonight, he won’t live it down. This game is about making my mark.”

A Historic First

If both players feature tonight, it will mark the first time in the 154-year history of the FA Cup that a father and son have competed against each other.

The match offers a chance for the Youngs to carve their names into football history in this highly anticipated third-round clash.

Football fans everywhere are eager to witness this once-in-a-lifetime moment, where family bonds and footballing ambition collide.
