Chelsea and Liverpool have joined the race to sign Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who could be on the move during the January transfer window, according to reports.

The 23-year-old Georgian has been a standout performer since his €10 million (£8.6m) arrival from Dinamo Batumi in 2022. In his first season, he helped Napoli clinch their first Serie A title in 33 years.

This campaign, he has scored five goals in 17 league matches, solidifying his reputation as one of Europe’s most promising talents.

Despite ongoing talks, Kvaratskhelia has yet to agree on a contract extension with Napoli. He is under contract until June 2027, but the lack of progress on a new deal has attracted interest from major European clubs.

Paris Saint-Germain is considered the frontrunner, having failed to secure the winger’s signature last summer. However, reports from The Athletic suggest that Chelsea and Liverpool are now serious contenders. Kvaratskhelia’s transfer fee is estimated at around €80m (£67m).

Liverpool, in particular, could make a move if Napoli decides to cash in on the player. Jurgen Klopp’s squad is well-equipped in wide positions, but the addition of Kvaratskhelia would bring extra firepower.

Napoli might also be eyeing replacements, with Federico Chiesa reportedly on their radar. Chiesa, who joined Liverpool from Juventus, has struggled for game time since arriving last summer.

In another twist, Manchester United has reportedly discussed a potential swap deal involving Marcus Rashford and Kvaratskhelia.

Rashford, out of favor under new coach Ruben Amorim, has missed United’s last six games. Napoli is said to be interested in a loan deal with an option to buy but is hesitant about covering more than half of Rashford’s £325,000-a-week salary.

Rashford’s representatives have also held talks with AC Milan, Juventus, and Borussia Dortmund as they explore options for the 27-year-old’s future.
