Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has heaped praise on Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard ahead of their highly anticipated FA Cup third-round clash at the Emirates Stadium this Sunday.

This marks the second meeting between the historic rivals within a month, with both teams desperate to avoid a defeat that could derail their campaigns.

Arsenal enter the match reeling from a 2-0 loss to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup, a setback that leaves their hopes of reaching the final hanging by a thread.

United, meanwhile, come off a confidence-boosting draw at Anfield, breaking a streak of underwhelming performances. However, their winless run across six matches highlights the pressing need for a turnaround.

The Red Devils were convincingly beaten by Arsenal in their last visit to the Emirates, undone by set-piece goals. Despite this, Amorim remains focused on Arsenal’s creative linchpin, Martin Odegaard.

“His influence on Arsenal’s game is incredible,” Amorim noted during Friday’s press conference. “When I faced them with Sporting and Odegaard wasn’t playing, the difference was night and day. When he’s on the pitch, Arsenal transforms into a completely different team.”

Odegaard has yet to hit top form since recovering from an ankle ligament injury that sidelined him for two months. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta acknowledged the midfielder’s recent challenges but remains optimistic about his return to peak performance.

“It’s tough for any attacking midfielder to consistently deliver 15 goals a season,” Arteta explained. “Martin has had big chances, but the key is supporting him and ensuring he feels confident to take those shots. He’s incredibly talented, and it’s only a matter of time before things click again.”

Odegaard’s fruitful partnership with Bukayo Saka has been a key element of Arsenal’s recent success. However, Saka’s absence appears to have disrupted the captain’s rhythm.

“There’s no doubt that chemistry between players is critical,” Arteta added. “When a connection like the one Martin and Bukayo share is missing, it’s noticeable. That, combined with Martin’s return from injury and illness, has impacted his output, but his quality is undeniable.”

As Arsenal seek redemption and United aim to regain momentum, all eyes will be on Odegaard to see if he can recapture the form that has made him one of the Premier League’s standout playmakers.
