Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee has sparked speculation over his future, with recent reports adding a twist to the saga. Initially linked with a January move to Juventus following a challenging Premier League season for United, Zirkzee was reportedly frustrated and keen to leave Old Trafford.
Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport suggested the 23-year-old forward was disheartened by his lack of impact at the Theatre of Dreams, where his performances have fallen below expectations.
However, transfer insider Florian Plettenberg has dismissed these claims, stating that Zirkzee has informed United of his desire to stay.
Sky Germany’s journalist confirms that Zirkzee is determined to fight for his place and prove his worth. While Juventus has shown interest, no formal negotiations or commitments have been made by Zirkzee or his representatives.
The striker’s struggles at United hit a low point in December when he was substituted just 33 minutes into their loss to Newcastle United, drawing jeers from fans. After heading straight to the tunnel, Zirkzee returned to the bench amid criticism for his conduct.
Since his £36.5m arrival from Bologna last summer, Zirkzee has managed only four goals and two assists across 28 appearances. Former United goalkeeper Ben Foster speculated that the forward’s tenure might have been cut short if Sir Alex Ferguson were still in charge.
Despite the setbacks, current United coach Ruben Amorim has expressed his support for the player. “I want to keep Josh because he gives everything and works hard in training,” Amorim told talkSPORT following United’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool.
The January transfer window remains open, and while Juventus remains an option, Zirkzee appears focused on earning his place at Old Trafford and revitalizing his career.
