Manchester United winger Antony has initiated legal proceedings against his former club Ajax, alleging they imposed unlawful fines on him before his high-profile move to Old Trafford.
The Brazilian international joined the Red Devils in a massive £85 million transfer from the Dutch club in 2022. The deal followed prolonged negotiations, with the season already underway when Antony made the switch.
Frustrated by delays, Antony missed training sessions, prompting Ajax to fine him for being absent without permission. The fines, reportedly amounting to several hundred thousand euros, were deducted from his final paycheck when the transfer was completed on September 1.
According to Dutch outlet AD, Antony is suing Ajax for what he calls “unlawful” actions. The case began on Monday, following Antony’s initial appeal to an arbitration committee six months prior.
Antony made an explosive start to his Premier League career, scoring on his debut in a 3-1 win over Arsenal. He added two more goals in his first six appearances, netting against Manchester City and Everton.
However, his form dipped sharply, with the 24-year-old falling out of favour under previous manager Erik ten Hag and struggling for game time under current boss Ruben Amorim.
Last season, Antony managed just one Premier League goal across 29 appearances. This season, he has yet to start a league game, scoring only once—a goal in a 7-0 League Cup win over Barnsley.
Antony signed a contract with Manchester United until 2027, with an option for an additional year. His current legal battle with Ajax adds another layer to a turbulent start to his career in England.
