Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is determined to retain Ronald Araujo, whom he regards as one of the best defenders, despite growing transfer interest from Arsenal.

The 25-year-old Uruguayan recently recovered from a serious hamstring injury that sidelined him for most of the season. Although back to full fitness, Araujo has struggled to secure a spot in Barcelona’s starting XI.

He has only made one appearance since his return, playing in the Copa del Rey match against UD Barbastro last weekend.

In December, Araujo was listed as a substitute for two La Liga matches but did not make it onto the pitch. With just 18 months remaining on his contract, reports in Spain suggest Barcelona might entertain offers for him this month.

Juventus has reportedly shown interest in a loan deal, while Arsenal is also considering a bid. However, Flick remains opposed to the idea of letting Araujo leave, emphasizing the defender’s value to the team.

“I want Araujo in my team because he is one of the best defenders,” Flick said. “He’s a professional and is now fit, having recovered from his injury. He can help us achieve our goals.”

Flick also urged his team to remain focused amid external distractions. “There is only outside noise. You have to be cohesive and strong. We’ve had a good season overall, but we must continue improving and learning from every game,” he added.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Araujo has expressed curiosity about the Premier League and is reportedly considering a January move. His interest in Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal stems from the club’s playing style, which aligns well with his skills.

Barcelona faces Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final in Saudi Arabia on Sunday. Araujo was benched for Barcelona’s win over Athletic Bilbao in the semi-final and did not make an appearance.

Since joining Barcelona from Uruguayan club Boston River for just £1.5 million in 2017, Araujo has made over 150 appearances across all competitions. Whether he will continue that tally or seek a new challenge in the Premier League remains to be seen.
