Sebastian Hoeness, the head coach of VfB Stuttgart, reportedly declined an approach from Manchester United during the summer. Following a review of Erik ten Hag’s position at Old Trafford, United’s management considered replacing the Dutchman before ultimately offering him a new contract. Among the candidates approached was Thomas Tuchel, but the club also reached out to Hoeness in July regarding a potential move to the Premier League.

According to German outlet Bild, Hoeness “politely declined” United’s overtures, expressing his desire to remain at Stuttgart and build upon last season’s success. Under Hoeness’s leadership, Stuttgart finished second in the Bundesliga, securing a spot in this season’s Champions League. He also signed a contract extension with Stuttgart before United’s approach, which binds him to the club until 2027.

Meanwhile, Erik ten Hag faces increased scrutiny at Manchester United due to the team’s disappointing start to the season, marking their worst-ever opening after seven games. Despite discussions among United’s hierarchy regarding his future, Ten Hag’s position remains secure for now.

United is set to continue their Premier League campaign on Saturday against Brentford at Old Trafford. When questioned about Ten Hag’s future earlier this month, United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe acknowledged Ten Hag’s capabilities as a coach but emphasized that management decisions are ultimately up to the team’s leadership. He highlighted that the current management team has been in place for only a short time, suggesting they need to assess the situation carefully before making decisions.

Ratcliffe stated, “Our objective is very clear—we want to take Manchester United back to where it should be, and it’s not there yet, obviously—that’s very clear. There’s work to be done.”
