Mikel Arteta faces mounting pressure after Arsenal’s FA Cup loss to Manchester United, but his focus remains on defending Kai Havertz amid a wave of criticism.

Havertz, signed for £65 million 18 months ago, initially silenced skeptics with an impressive resurgence last season. Starting this campaign strongly with 12 goals, recent struggles have reignited debates over Arsenal’s striking options.

Last week, Havertz missed a key chance in the Carabao Cup semi-final against Newcastle. On Sunday, his penalty miss in the FA Cup shootout proved decisive, sparking abuse on social media. Havertz’s wife revealed vile messages, including one wishing her a miscarriage.

Addressing the issue, Arteta said, “It’s incredible. Accepting this kind of behavior has serious consequences. One moment, the crowd is cheering; the next, there’s abuse. We must change this narrative. It affects Kai, it affects me, it affects us all.”

Despite the setback, Arsenal aims to rebound during Wednesday’s north London derby against Tottenham. Arteta called the match “the nicest game of the season” and urged fans to energize the team.

However, Arsenal faces challenges with Gabriel Jesus likely sidelined for the season due to a serious knee injury. “It doesn’t look good. We’re awaiting the specialist’s report, but we’re very concerned,” said Arteta.

When asked about transfers to address the injury crisis, Arteta confirmed Arsenal remains active in the market. “We’re always looking to improve the squad. It’s a delicate balance—loving your players but also ensuring the team has the best resources to compete. Let’s see what we can achieve.”
