Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze has officially withdrawn from Nigeria’s upcoming away match against Libya at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Benghazi.

The 24-year-old AC Milan player, previously of Villarreal, was called up to the national team by interim coach Augustine Eguavoen, despite struggling for playing time in Italy this season under coach Paulo Fonseca. Chukwueze had recently come on as a substitute in Nigeria’s narrow 1-0 victory over Libya at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, but he reported discomfort late in the game.

As a result of his ankle injury, Chukwueze did not join the Super Eagles for their trip to Libya and has returned to AC Milan for further evaluation of his condition. The former FIFA U-17 World Cup winner is hoping for a quick recovery to avoid further setbacks in what has been a challenging season for him at the San Siro.

In Chukwueze’s absence, other forwards such as Chidera Ejuke, Moses Simon, and Kelechi Iheanacho may be called upon to fill the right-wing position, despite it not being their primary role.

The three-time African Cup of Nations champions are set to face Libya tomorrow, with kickoff scheduled for 8 PM WAT.
