Chris Wood opened the scoring for Nottingham Forest, setting up a dramatic 1-1 draw with Liverpool at the City Ground. Substitute Diogo Jota salvaged a point for the Reds, but Jamie Carragher has issued a stark warning: Liverpool’s title hopes could crumble without a defensive upgrade.
Despite maintaining a six-point lead at the top of the Premier League table, Carragher believes Liverpool’s once-impenetrable defense has grown vulnerable. He’s calling for action in the January transfer window, urging the club’s hierarchy to strengthen their backline.
“Liverpool should’ve won tonight, but they keep conceding big chances even in games they dominate,” Carragher posted on X. “The defensive solidity they had earlier this season is gone. They must buy a defender!”
Liverpool’s manager, Arne Slot, fielded his preferred back four, including Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Andy Robertson.
However, substitutions on the 66th minute led to Forest’s equalizer, with Kostas Tsimikas delivering a corner that Jota converted.
Carragher has previously identified left-back as a weak point, criticizing Robertson’s declining form and questioning Tsimikas’ ability to step up.
Speaking on Sky Sports after the 2-2 draw with Manchester United, Carragher insisted, “Robertson is a legend but is just hanging on. Tsimikas isn’t at the required level. A left-back in January could solidify Liverpool’s title push.”
With the transfer window open, all eyes are on Liverpool to see if they’ll heed Carragher’s advice and fortify their defense for the battles ahead.
