Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has publicly responded to Kylian Mbappe’s recent comments insinuating that the club is behind false stories about him, following reports of a police investigation into an alleged rape at a hotel in Stockholm, where the forward and his entourage stayed.
On Monday, Swedish media reported that authorities are investigating a suspected rape that reportedly occurred last Thursday at the same hotel where Mbappe was residing. However, there has been no official confirmation from Swedish police that Mbappe or his entourage were involved in or aware of the alleged incident during their stay.
In reaction to the allegations, Mbappe took to his official X account, sharing a report from RMC Sport and stating, “Fake news!!!! It has become so predictable. The day before the hearing as if by chance, right?” He also included a winking emoji in his post, suggesting a connection between the timing of the allegations and his ongoing legal dispute with PSG over €55 million (£45.9m) in unpaid wages.
As Mbappe prepares to meet with the Ligue de Football Professionnel’s (LFP) appeal committee regarding the wage dispute, PSG issued a strong statement condemning his comments. A source within the club told French newspaper *L’Equipe*: “Honestly, it’s a shame. PSG is responsible for everything with him. He didn’t score any goals (apart from penalties) for Madrid? It’s PSG. He missed the French national team matches even though he says he did, but he’s not injured? It’s PSG. PSG are now making up stories in Sweden. We will ignore it and keep our class.”
In defense of Mbappe, his entourage released a statement describing the Swedish reports as “false and irresponsible,” asserting that the accusations are unacceptable. The statement emphasized, “Today, a new slanderous rumour is starting to spread across the web from the Swedish media *Aftonbladet*. These accusations are completely false and irresponsible, and their propagation is unacceptable. In order to put an end to this methodical destruction of (the) image (of Kylian Mbappe), all necessary legal actions will be taken to re-establish the truth and pursue any person or media involved in the moral harassment and defamatory treatment that Kylian Mbappe is suffering repeatedly.”
