Benjamin Mendy, the former Manchester City defender, has made explosive allegations, stating that “several” players from the club attended sex parties he hosted. These claims come as Mendy launches an £11 million unpaid wages claim against City after being suspended in 2021 when charged with multiple counts of rape. Although he was acquitted of all charges last year, the club had withheld his salary during his trial, deeming him unavailable for work.

In a written statement, Mendy claimed, “Several Manchester City first-team players, including the club captain, were all present at the parties that I attended and hosted. There is no suggestion that any behavior was non-consensual.” He added that these gatherings included alcohol consumption and casual relations with women, admitting that they also breached Covid-19 restrictions.

Mendy expressed his belief that it was unfair for Manchester City to single him out, stating, “The difference between me and the other Manchester City players is that I was the one that was falsely accused of rape and publicly humiliated.”

He did not specify which players attended the parties but noted that Fernandinho was the club captain at the time the allegations first surfaced. Other previous captains during Mendy’s tenure included Vincent Kompany and David Silva, while current club captain is Kyle Walker.

Mendy’s contract with City expired in June 2023, and the club had refrained from paying him his £6 million-a-year salary during his legal proceedings. He has since joined FC Lorient in the second tier of French football.

Reflecting on his situation, Mendy stated, “I can’t help but feel that the club are trying to paint a narrative that I was acting recklessly,” emphasizing that he was engaging in behavior similar to that of other players at the club.

His remarks highlight a complex narrative surrounding the events that led to his legal troubles, and they continue to raise questions about accountability within professional football clubs.
