Jamie Carragher has heavily criticized Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim for labeling his squad as “one of the worst teams in the club’s history.” Amorim’s startling remarks came after United’s humiliating 3-1 defeat to Brighton on Sunday, a loss that highlighted their struggling form this season.
Addressing reporters post-match, Amorim candidly admitted, “We might be the worst team in Manchester United’s history.
I know you want headlines, and I’m giving you one because we need to acknowledge this and work to change it.”
Liverpool legend and Sky Sports pundit Carragher was quick to react, calling Amorim’s statement “bizarre and ridiculous.” Carragher questioned the purpose of such a claim, stating, “Why would a manager say that? That’s the type of comment you’d expect from a pundit who then has to justify it.
What does he gain by saying it? Everyone knows United are struggling, but he’s now created a quote that will haunt him for the rest of the season.”
Carragher didn’t hold back on the players either, labeling their performances over the years as laughable.
“A few weeks ago, after the Liverpool game, Lisandro Martinez spoke about mentality and tapped his head.
I nearly burst out laughing. This team has thrown in the towel countless times over the past four or five years,” he said.
However, Carragher reserved his sharpest critique for Amorim’s ability to lead. “How does he walk into that dressing room and inspire confidence after branding them one of the worst teams in history?
The higher-ups at Manchester United must be questioning his approach because a manager can’t pour petrol on the flames like that.”
Carragher concluded by emphasizing that Amorim’s controversial comments could undermine his authority and create further instability in a team already struggling to recover from repeated setbacks.
