Fabio Capello has expressed frustration with Juventus’ tactics and team management after their lackluster draw against Club Brugge in the Champions League.

The former Juventus and England manager criticized Thiago Motta’s decision to introduce Dusan Vlahovic late in the match, despite the Serbian being their top scorer this season with 12 goals across all competitions.

Juventus dominated possession but failed to make it count, with Nicolas Gonzalez and Manuel Locatelli missing their best opportunities. Substitutions, including the introduction of Vlahovic in the 76th minute, failed to alter the game’s outcome, leaving Juventus with their third draw in the competition.

Capello shared his thoughts on Sky Sport Italia, saying: “A lot of ball possession and then zero shots on target with only one attempt. The stats were like this in the first half, but in the second, they tried to do more and had two chances. Why didn’t Vlahovic come in earlier? We don’t understand this, but it’s a team that doesn’t cross much.”

Vlahovic, signed from Fiorentina for £66m in 2022, has been Juventus’ most reliable scorer. However, speculation around his future has intensified as Chelsea reportedly considers a big-money move for the 24-year-old before the transfer window closes.

Sky Sport Italia pundit Paolo Condo added to the discussion, suggesting Vlahovic’s role could diminish following the arrival of Randal Kolo Muani.

Condo said:“Now that Kolo Muani has arrived, I feel Vlahovic doesn’t excite Thiago Motta. Juventus needs a striker who can provide greater depth to the team. Should Vlahovic leave in the summer… for AC Milan, perhaps? For his salary, I don’t think they can afford it.”

Despite his reported frustrations, Vlahovic’s contribution to Juventus remains significant, with 53 goals in 126 appearances since his arrival. His contract, which runs for another 18 months, has led to further links with clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea.

Juventus’ struggles in the Champions League continue as they languish in 14th place, jeopardizing their chances of advancing to the knockout stages. Capello’s criticism highlights the urgency for tactical adjustments to maximize the potential of key players like Vlahovic.
