Keane, renowned for his fiery personality and leadership on the pitch, has not managed a team since leaving Ipswich Town in 2011.

Despite an impressive start at Sunderland, where he secured promotion to the Premier League, his managerial journey stalled after a less successful spell with the Tractor Boys.

Speaking to BoyleSports, Stam said, “I would love to see Roy Keane back in management and I’d love to be his assistant manager. He knows so much about the game and can provide invaluable advice to players on improving their performance. It’s up to him to decide, but I believe he has the potential to be a great manager.”

While Keane has found success as a pundit in recent years, Stam highlighted the stark contrast between the media world and the demanding lifestyle of football management. However, Stam remains optimistic, stating he’d be eager to support Keane should the Irishman return to the dugout.

Stam himself has a varied managerial career, having coached Reading, Feyenoord, and FC Cincinnati. While he currently manages a lower-tier team, the Dutchman has kept his ambitions alive, mentioning an interest in managing in Scottish football someday.

Reflecting on his connection to Scottish football, Stam shared how Rangers once sought his signature during his playing days, though he ultimately joined Manchester United instead.

He noted his admiration for both Celtic and Rangers, stating, “One day, I’d love to manage in Scotland. The passionate fans and iconic grounds make it a dream for any football lover.”

Stam’s openness to new opportunities and his respect for Keane’s managerial potential underline the enduring camaraderie and respect between the former Manchester United teammates.
