Former West Ham star Paolo Di Canio has expressed doubts about Joshua Zirkzee’s ability to succeed in the Premier League and has advised Juventus to consider a loan move for the Dutch forward in the upcoming January transfer window.

Zirkzee, who joined Manchester United from Bologna in a £36.5 million summer transfer, made an instant impact by scoring a late winner on his debut against Fulham. However, the 23-year-old has struggled to maintain that momentum, failing to register a goal or assist since his memorable debut. His recent performances, including being substituted at halftime during United’s 3-0 loss to Tottenham, have raised questions about his suitability for English football.

Zirkzee’s struggles have continued with limited playing time, featuring in just two substitute appearances against Porto and Aston Villa. Additionally, during the international break, he was dropped for the Netherlands’ Nations League loss to Germany, further compounding his difficult start at Old Trafford.

Despite his early promise, several prominent figures have questioned Zirkzee’s future at United, including club legend Paul Scholes. Now, Di Canio has joined the chorus of critics, questioning whether Zirkzee has the necessary qualities to thrive in the Premier League.

In a conversation with *Tuttosport*, Di Canio remarked, “Zirkzee is too slow for the Premier League. Maybe he’ll prove me wrong with goals and performances, but in this league, defenders are aggressive, and there are fewer fouls compared to Serie A.”

The Italian icon went on to suggest that Juventus should capitalize on United’s struggles and initiate talks for a loan deal with an option to buy, adding, “There is so much confusion at Manchester United that they might even loan him out. He could offer Juventus a different skill set compared to Dusan Vlahovic.”

Zirkzee’s slow start at United has led to mounting pressure on Erik ten Hag, as the club has gone five matches without a win. As Zirkzee looks to prove his critics wrong, Di Canio’s suggestion opens the door for a potential move to Serie A, where he might rediscover the form that made him a standout at Bologna.

Zirkzee’s future remains uncertain, but Juventus could provide him with the platform to revive his career, should they heed Di Canio’s advice.
