Ruben Amorim delivered an alarming injury update after Manchester United’s 2-1 victory over Rangers on Thursday, a win that brought them closer to the Europa League last 16.

Bruno Fernandes scored a last-gasp winner in the 92nd minute, but United’s triumph was tainted by injuries to Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro.

Both defenders suffered leg issues during the match at Old Trafford, forcing Amorim to make early substitutions—De Ligt at halftime and Yoro just 10 minutes after the break.

Amorim explained to TNT Sports, “De Ligt felt discomfort in his leg, and so did Yoro. We can’t afford to take risks.

While winning is important, we need to show the players that every member of the squad counts.”

He reiterated the message in his MUTV interview, stressing, “De Ligt has pain, and we can’t take any chances with him.

Yoro also felt pain, and the same goes for him. We have plenty of options, and we cannot afford to lose anyone.”

Meanwhile, Noussair Mazraoui missed the game after suffering a knock in the previous defeat to Brighton. Reflecting on the win, Amorim acknowledged United’s performance wasn’t their best.

“We’re still far from our peak, but we’ve made improvements. The opposition and speed were different, but the players did what they could. The connections and movement were better than before, and with more training, we’ll improve. Being more clinical in key moments will make a huge difference.”
