Jamie Carragher has urged Arsenal to give their Premier League rivals, including Chelsea, a clear path to sign Wolves forward Matheus Cunha, valued at £65m.
Since joining Wolves from Atletico Madrid in 2023, the 25-year-old Brazilian has been in top form, consistently hitting double figures in Premier League goals.
This season alone, he has scored 10 goals despite Wolves struggling in 18th place, just one point from safety.
Wolves’ poor results led to Gary O’Neil’s sacking last month, but new manager Vitor Pereira has yet to inspire a turnaround.
Despite Pereira’s insistence that Cunha is “not for sale,” interest from Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, and Nottingham Forest continues to grow.
Arsenal, needing more creativity in attack, sees Cunha as a potential boost for Mikel Arteta’s side, who are chasing league leaders Liverpool.
Yet, Carragher believes Cunha wouldn’t be a perfect fit for Arsenal’s system. “He’s a good player, but I wouldn’t pay £65m for him. I’m not sure where he fits in Arsenal’s lineup,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
Instead, the Liverpool legend recommends Arsenal shift their focus to Benjamin Sesko, a striker capable of strengthening their frontline.
With Gabriel Jesus sidelined and Kai Havertz leading Arsenal’s scoring charts with just eight goals, Carragher argues the Gunners must act fast. “Deal. They need to sign a forward, or they won’t win the Premier League,” he emphasized.
Wolves, meanwhile, are determined to keep Cunha, with Pereira stating, “He’s my player and not for sale. He’s committed to the team and wants to stay.”
Wolves recently lost 1-0 at home to Arsenal and face a challenging derby against Aston Villa on Saturday. Whether Cunha remains part of their relegation battle is still up in the air.
