Liverpool’s stellar season under new manager Arne Slot has them leading both the Premier League and their Champions League group. However, looming off-field uncertainties could disrupt the Reds’ momentum.
Key players Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all out of contract at the end of the season, and their potential departures could leave Liverpool reeling.
Van Dijk, who celebrated his 300th appearance for the club in a 4-1 win over Ipswich, admitted that his future remains unclear. “I have no idea,” the Dutch defender said when asked about how many more Liverpool games he has left.
“Hopefully, those [remaining games this season] are guaranteed. Beyond that, I don’t know what the future will bring.”
Despite his uncertainty, Van Dijk reflected proudly on his time at Liverpool, saying, “I’ll celebrate with a glass of red wine tonight.
One day, I’ll reflect on what’s stood out during my time here. Hopefully, there are still good things to come.”
Mohamed Salah, closing in on 400 appearances, has also left fans guessing about his future. The 32-year-old is focused on helping Liverpool secure another Premier League title, particularly as the remnants of their 2020 title-winning squad dwindle.
“There are just five or six of us left from that team—me, Virgil, Trent, Ali [Alisson Becker], Joe [Gomez], and Robbo [Andy Robertson],” Salah said. “I believe we need another trophy before we all go. Winning the Premier League twice would be incredible.”
The prospect of Van Dijk, Salah, and Alexander-Arnold departing on free transfers would be a significant blow to Liverpool, both financially and on the pitch.
As the clock ticks, fans are left wondering if the club will secure these stars’ futures or prepare for a new era.
