Former Nigerian international Nduka Ugbade has cautioned the Super Eagles against underestimating their group opponents—Tunisia, Tanzania, and Uganda—at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The tournament is set to take place from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, in Morocco.

Nigeria, the group’s most successful team, boasts three AFCON titles and is making their 21st appearance. Uganda, with eight tournament appearances, and Tanzania, with three, will look to challenge the Super Eagles.

Familiar foes Tunisia, who knocked Nigeria out in the 2021 round of 16, have appeared in 21 tournaments and won the championship once in 2024.

Speaking to Brila FM, Ugbade emphasized the need for hard work and focus. “The draw isn’t too difficult for the Super Eagles, but football in Africa has improved significantly,” he said.

“Even the smallest team, Tanzania, could pull off surprises. Nigeria must work hard to qualify and not underestimate anyone.”

Ugbade’s remarks underscore the unpredictable nature of African football, where no team can be overlooked. The Super Eagles will aim to leverage their rich history and experience to secure qualification and make a deep run in the competition.
