Carlton Cole has criticized Ruben Amorim for his public comments about Marcus Rashford, urging Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe to step in and prevent further damage to the forward’s career.
Rashford, 27, has been the subject of speculation following his exclusion from last month’s Manchester derby. Amorim has repeatedly questioned the England international’s professionalism and attitude since taking charge of United.
Last weekend, Amorim claimed he’d prefer to play the club’s 63-year-old goalkeeping coach over a player not “giving the maximum every day.”
Rashford, whose future at United has been called into question, has struggled with form, scoring just 11 league goals over the last two seasons.
Despite interest from top European clubs like AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona, and Fenerbahce, the player is not keen on a move to the Saudi Pro League.
On The Dressing Room Podcast, Cole slammed Amorim for his remarks, stating, “He’s killing Rashford, and he’s killing his price tag too.
Rashford is a commodity, he’s money. Why would you say that if you want to sell him?”
Cole believes Amorim’s emotional approach is harmful to Rashford’s value and United’s ability to make a profitable transfer. He further urged Ratcliffe to intervene, telling him, “You need to shut your mouth! We’re trying to sell him here, and you’re saying he’s not living the right lifestyle!”
United legend Rio Ferdinand also weighed in, saying that Rashford should feel “embarrassed” by Amorim’s criticism. He pointed out that questioning a player’s effort in such a public manner leaves little room for redemption.
“If I was the player the manager said that about, my pride, my ego, my heart would be embarrassed,” Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel. “If it isn’t true, I’m coming out all guns blazing.”
