Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran has come under heavy criticism after reports emerged that he is seriously considering a move to Saudi Arabia.
The 21-year-old Colombian international has scored 12 goals this season but remains second choice to Ollie Watkins at Villa Park.
His limited game time has attracted interest from top clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea, while West Ham reportedly had a £57 million bid rejected earlier this month.
However, in a surprising twist, Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr has now joined the race to sign Duran, with reports claiming he has already agreed personal terms. Villa is holding out for £80 million, but the player’s willingness to leave Europe has sparked backlash.
Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan didn’t hold back, slamming Duran’s potential move as purely money-driven.
“He’s not a serious footballer,” Jordan said on talkSPORT. “At 21, playing in the best league for a big club, and he wants to go to Saudi? That tells you everything.”
Some have compared Duran’s situation to Ivan Toney’s Saudi move, but Jordan dismissed that, arguing Toney was at a different stage in his career.
“This is not a football move; it’s a money move,” he added. “And that’s fine, but just call it what it is.”
Villa manager Unai Emery acknowledged the transfer speculation has been a distraction but made it clear he wants Duran to stay.
“The circumstances are not helping us stay 100% focused, but Jhon Duran is our player, and I am happy with him,” Emery told Sky Sports. “I want him here.”
Meanwhile, Villa is also fighting to keep their star striker, Watkins, after rejecting Arsenal’s £60 million bid. With the transfer window closing soon, both Duran and Watkins’ futures remain uncertain.
