Fabian Hurzeler to Make Final Decision on Evan Ferguson Transfer

Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler is set for further discussions with Evan Ferguson before determining the striker’s future as the January transfer window nears its end.

Ferguson, who recently returned to first-team training after missing seven games due to an ankle injury, is now available for selection.

However, the Republic of Ireland international has struggled to secure a spot in Hurzeler’s starting lineup, largely due to the strong performances of Danny Welbeck and Joao Pedro.

This season, the 20-year-old has started only two Premier League matches, scoring once in 14 appearances across all competitions.

With limited game time, Ferguson is considering a loan move, and West Ham is reportedly leading the chase for his signature.

Arsenal had been linked with a potential move but have shifted their focus to Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, having already submitted an initial bid.

Speaking ahead of Brighton’s match against Nottingham Forest, Hurzeler acknowledged Ferguson’s desire for more playing time and emphasized the need for discussions before making a decision.

“My focus is on working with the players on the pitch,” said Hurzeler. “We had a good training session yesterday, and he trained well.

The rest is beyond our control. He understands my perspective and the club’s, and we understand his. That’s what matters.”

Expressing his desire to continue working with Ferguson, Hurzeler highlighted the club’s commitment to player development. “We want to help him grow. That requires open discussions.

We’ll decide what makes sense for his future over the next six months, and it will be a collective decision, not just an individual one.

From my conversations with Evan, it’s clear he simply wants to play, whether that’s here or elsewhere.”

Meanwhile, West Ham manager Graham Potter remained tight-lipped about a potential move for Ferguson, stating, “He’s not our player, so I won’t comment on it.”
