Theo Walcott Backs Arsenal to Sign a Striker Before Transfer Deadline

With the January transfer window nearing its end, former Arsenal star Theo Walcott remains hopeful the Gunners will bring in a new striker to boost their attacking options.

Arsenal recently made a move for Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, but their opening bid was rejected.

While Watkins is reportedly keen on joining the club he supported as a child, Villa manager Unai Emery is reluctant to sell—especially after Jhon Duran’s sudden exit. It remains uncertain whether Arsenal will return with an improved offer.

As speculation swirls, Walcott has suggested an alternative target: Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap. The 21-year-old forward, who joined Ipswich from Manchester City last summer, has impressed with his physical presence and goal-scoring ability, netting eight times this season.

Arsenal have also been linked with a loan move for Brighton’s Evan Ferguson, but Walcott believes Delap could be the better investment.

Speaking as part of Guinness’ new #TransferThatPint campaign, Walcott voiced concerns over Ferguson’s role at Brighton, stating:

“He’s a good player, but he’s had injuries and struggled to regain his spot. Brighton’s squad depth means he’s not a guaranteed starter.”

Regarding Delap, he added:

“I think Arsenal would look at Liam Delap before Ferguson because of what he’s achieved so far. He offers a similar playing style but might be a more affordable and effective choice.”

Walcott also emphasized the importance of a true number nine in Arsenal’s setup:

“There aren’t many natural number nines available, and it wouldn’t take £60-80 million to sign Delap. Mikel Arteta has a reputation for developing young players, so this could be a smart move if Arsenal can’t land their top target.”

With time running out in the transfer window, Arsenal must decide whether to increase their bid for Watkins or explore alternative striker options like Delap or Ferguson.
