Bayern Munich winger Mathys Tel has rejected the opportunity to join Tottenham, despite the club agreeing on a €60 million (£50.2m) deal with the Bundesliga giants.
Tel, 19, had expressed his desire to leave Bayern before the January transfer window closed, prompting Spurs to act quickly. However, the French winger ultimately decided against making the switch to North London.
Sky Germany reports that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy personally traveled to Munich on Friday in a last-minute effort to persuade Tel, but his attempts were unsuccessful. With the deadline looming on February 3, Tel is now exploring alternative options.
His decision is a significant boost for Arsenal, Manchester United, and Chelsea, who remain interested in securing his services. Chelsea previously approached Bayern over a deal, but Tel is hesitant about moving to Stamford Bridge due to fierce competition for attacking spots under Enzo Maresca.
Manchester United have also shown interest but may need to offload Alejandro Garnacho before pursuing Tel. Both Chelsea and Napoli have been in discussions over Garnacho, though United are holding firm on their £55m valuation.
Meanwhile, Arsenal has been monitoring Tel’s situation, though their primary focus appears to be on Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins. The Gunners recently had a £60m bid rejected for the England international as Villa remain reluctant to sell.
As the final days of the transfer window unfold, Tel’s next move remains uncertain, but Premier League clubs are still vying for his signature.
