Tottenham fans feared the worst when Micky van de Ven was absent from the lineup against Brentford, but Ange Postecoglou has assured that the Dutch defender hasn’t suffered a fresh injury.
Instead, the club is managing his minutes ahead of a crucial run of fixtures, including Thursday’s Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Liverpool.
With Cristian Romero and Radu Dragusin also unavailable, Spurs had to field an improvised center-back pairing of Ben Davies and young midfielder Archie Gray.
Despite defensive struggles, they made a key addition by securing Kevin Danso from Lens, hijacking Wolves’ deal for the Austrian defender.
“I think Kevin will be a great fit for us,” Postecoglou said. “We’re a bit short at the back, and he’s an experienced, strong one-on-one defender who will add energy to the squad.”
Spurs hope Danso’s arrival and Van de Ven’s return will stabilize their defense as they prepare for a pivotal stretch of matches against Liverpool, Aston Villa, and Manchester United
