Harry Kane has urged Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel to carefully consider his next move amid strong interest from Premier League giants Manchester United and Arsenal.
The 19-year-old forward has been on the radar of multiple English clubs during the January transfer window. Initially, Tottenham looked set to sign him after agreeing to a £50 million deal with Bayern. However, Tel reportedly rejected the move, leaving United and Arsenal in contention.
Both clubs are eager to strengthen their squads before the transfer window closes, and Tel is open to a move after struggling for game time under Bayern’s new boss, Vincent Kompany.
The French U21 international, who joined Bayern for over £20 million in 2022, played a key role in his first two seasons but has made just eight Bundesliga appearances this campaign.
Despite his limited minutes, Kane believes Tel has immense potential and can develop significantly in the coming years. However, the England captain emphasized that regular playing time should be his top priority.
“Mathys is a great young player,” Kane said after Bayern’s dramatic 4-3 win over Holstein Kiel. “I’ve worked with him for 18 months, and he has a lot of potential.
He trains hard, has the right mindset, and can improve further. But whatever his next step is, playing time is crucial. He should go where he will get minutes and experience.”
Bayern sporting director Max Eberl confirmed that Tel has expressed his desire to leave. Speaking after Bayern’s Champions League match on Wednesday, Eberl revealed:
“In December, Mathys wanted to stay and prove himself. Now he’s considering a move. His lack of playing time is understandable, but it’s late in the window, making things more complicated. We need to assess what’s best for Mathys and Bayern.”
A move to Manchester United could provide a much-needed boost to their struggling attack. Manager Ruben Amorim has already sanctioned Marcus Rashford’s loan move to Aston Villa, leaving room for reinforcements.
Meanwhile, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is desperate to strengthen his frontline before the deadline. The Gunners recently made a bold attempt to sign Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins but saw their approach rejected.
With just days left in the transfer window, Tel faces a crucial decision—one that could shape the trajectory of his career.
