Leicester City head coach Steve Cooper has provided an update on Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi following the Nigerian team’s travel difficulties in Libya. The 27-year-old versatile midfielder was part of the squad that secured a narrow 1-0 victory against Libya in a crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo. Ndidi played a significant role in that match, contributing 74 minutes of solid performance before traveling with the team for the return leg in Libya.

Unfortunately, the Super Eagles encountered unforeseen challenges upon their arrival in Libya. Instead of being directed to their intended destination, the team was rerouted to another airport. This unexpected turn of events left them stranded for over 13 hours without access to food or a reliable internet connection, creating a stressful and challenging situation for all involved. It was a tough experience, particularly for Ndidi, who had to navigate the discomfort and uncertainty alongside his teammates. However, after this ordeal, Ndidi safely returned to England on Tuesday and immediately joined Leicester City’s training session the following day.

Cooper emphasized the importance of Ndidi’s well-being during this challenging period, stating, “He’s fine, and that’s the most important thing. He’s back with us and he’s safe and well.” The coach reassured fans that the club maintained close contact with Ndidi throughout the ordeal, emphasizing their commitment to ensuring his safety. “We were in close contact with him throughout the situation they found themselves in. He kept us updated. I know there was a bit of a Wi-Fi issue at times, so maybe it wasn’t as regular as anybody would have liked. Everyone was in contact, myself included, to make sure he was safe and well,” Cooper explained.

Fortunately, the situation was resolved, and all members of the Nigerian team returned safely. Ndidi’s quick return to Leicester City was met with relief, and he resumed training shortly thereafter. Cooper noted that Ndidi’s safe return was not just a physical relief but also addressed his mental well-being. “Fortunately, he’s in a safe place, and that’s including the mental side of it as well,” he added, highlighting the significance of ensuring that players are mentally equipped to return to their routines after such stressful incidents.

During the training session, Cooper remarked on Ndidi’s performance, stating, “He trained really well yesterday, I have to say, and that was pleasing to see. Maybe that was something he needed, a little bit of a release just to get back to normality.” This training session was crucial for Ndidi, allowing him to shift his focus back to football and prepare for the upcoming challenges. Cooper confirmed that the club has been diligent in checking in on Ndidi’s overall well-being, ensuring he feels supported and ready to return to his usual high-performance level.

As for Ndidi’s form on the pitch, he has been exceptional this season, providing four assists in seven games, showcasing his creativity and playmaking abilities. This performance has made him a vital asset for Leicester City as they continue to compete in the Championship. Looking ahead, Cooper expressed confidence in Ndidi’s readiness for the upcoming matches, saying, “He trained yesterday, will train today, and will be ready like everybody else for the game at the weekend.” The manager’s optimism about Ndidi’s immediate future indicates that he will be a crucial player for Leicester City as they navigate the season ahead.

Overall, Ndidi’s safe return to Leicester City following the Libya travel ordeal reflects the club’s commitment to player welfare, and his impressive form suggests he is poised to continue contributing significantly to the team’s success.
