Matheus Cunha, one of Wolves’ standout performers, has opted to remain at Molineux despite strong interest from Arsenal and Chelsea. The Brazilian forward, who joined from Atletico Madrid in 2023, played a crucial role for the club last season, netting 14 goals. However, with Wolves battling to stay in the Premier League, speculation over his future had intensified.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, eager to reinforce his attacking options, was reportedly keen on the 25-year-old, while Chelsea also explored a potential move. Despite this, Wolves secured Cunha’s commitment with a new long-term contract, which reportedly includes a release clause that could be triggered in the future.

Manchester United had also identified Cunha as a potential signing before his contract renewal. Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson believes the Brazilian would be a major asset for Ruben Amorim’s squad, stating that he would “definitely improve Manchester United.”

Speaking to Paddy Power, Lawrenson acknowledged Wolves’ reluctance to sell but suggested Cunha may eventually push for an exit. He pointed to Wolves’ summer exodus of key players as a reason for their struggles and speculated that the forward may seek a move to a bigger club.

United’s inconsistent performances under Amorim have been widely criticized, with Lawrenson attributing their struggles to a mix of top-tier talent and mediocre squad players. He also questioned the club’s direction, citing job cuts under the new ownership despite their financial strength.

Following Wolves’ vital 2-0 win over Aston Villa, Cunha reaffirmed his commitment to the club, stating that his decision was driven by passion and the support of the fans. While his immediate future is settled, his long-term prospects could still see him make a move to one of the Premier League’s top sides.

Meanwhile, Amorim’s Manchester United suffered another setback, falling 2-0 to Crystal Palace on Sunday, further highlighting the need for reinforcements.
