Manchester United’s winter transfer window saw the arrival of 20-year-old Patrick Dorgu from Lecce, a £25m investment aimed at strengthening Ruben Amorim’s squad.
With a potential £4.1m in add-ons, the left wing-back is seen as a key addition to address the club’s struggles in the position.
Dorgu established himself at Lecce, making 57 appearances and scoring five goals in Serie A.
The Copenhagen-born talent has also earned four caps for Denmark, finding the net against Switzerland in September.
His arrival at Old Trafford is expected to bring much-needed physicality and intensity to the team.
“I think I’m going to bring a lot of intensity and physique on the pitch,” Dorgu said. “And a lot of energy and running.”
The young defender also emphasized his strong mindset, shaped by living alone in Italy.
“You need to be really good mentally to stay focused on football,” he added.
Amorim’s 3-4-3 system has struggled in the Premier League, making wing-backs a crucial part of his tactical setup.
Dorgu believes he fits the role perfectly: “I’m really looking forward to working with the new manager, and I feel the system suits me really well.”
United also secured 18-year-old centre-back Ayden Heaven from Arsenal, a signing geared more toward the future.
However, the club opted not to strengthen its attack despite loaning out Marcus Rashford and Antony, leaving Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee to carry the goal-scoring burden.
