Chelsea’s chances of winning the Premier League have been questioned by Jamie Carragher, who believes they lack the quality needed in two crucial positions.
The former Liverpool star doubts whether striker Nicolas Jackson and goalkeeper Robert Sanchez are up to the task for a title-winning side.
Jackson has scored 17 goals in his first season and 9 so far this campaign, but his inconsistent performances and missed chances have raised concerns about his ability to lead Chelsea’s attack.
Meanwhile, Sanchez has faced criticism for costly mistakes, with many fans and pundits questioning whether he is of the standard required for a team competing for the league title.
Carragher stressed the importance of having top-quality players in both attacking and defensive roles, asking if Jackson is capable of scoring goals when Chelsea needs them the most and if Sanchez can keep them in the game with crucial saves.
He suggested that Sanchez’s errors have shown he may not be suited for Chelsea’s high demands.
Gary Neville echoed these concerns, noting that the goalkeeper position requires consistency, something Sanchez has failed to provide.
While Neville acknowledged Jackson’s potential, he emphasized that in a title-winning Chelsea side of the past, Jackson would likely have been a backup option, not the main striker.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has continued to rely on Jackson for matches but recently dropped Sanchez in favor of Filip Jorgensen, signaling the club’s intent to address their goalkeeper concerns.
