Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool made a mistake by not reinforcing their defense in the January transfer window, a move that could prove costly in their Premier League title pursuit.

Despite several outgoings—including Stefan Bajcetic, Calvin Ramsay, and Rhys Williams leaving on loan—Liverpool opted against any incoming transfers before the deadline. The club also sold Marcelo Pitaluga and Tom Hill, maintaining their stance of minimal winter activity.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher admitted he had hoped to see a defensive addition:

“I would’ve loved Liverpool to sign another defender, to be totally honest. But I trust the recruitment team—they have a great track record.”

Although Liverpool sit six points clear at the top, Carragher pinpointed key areas needing improvement. He suggested a summer move for a left-sided defender capable of playing both left-back and center-back.

“Attacking midfield and center-forward are also areas for improvement. But for now, I believe in Liverpool’s strategy—they’ve rarely got it wrong.”

Liverpool have been linked with AFC Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez, but head coach Arne Slot recently downplayed any immediate transfer plans.
