Nottingham Forest turned down a record-breaking transfer bid from Chelsea for their star defender Murillo during the January window, according to reports.

The Brazilian centre-back has been a standout performer since arriving from Corinthians in 2023, solidifying his place as one of the Premier League’s top defenders.

Murillo has played a crucial role in Forest’s remarkable season under Nuno Espirito Santo, with the club sitting third in the league and eyeing a Champions League spot.

Chelsea made a late attempt to secure the 22-year-old before the window closed, but Forest refused to sell despite the bid exceeding the £47.5 million Tottenham paid for Brennan Johnson in 2023.

While the exact amount of Chelsea’s offer remains undisclosed, The Telegraph confirms it would have been the highest sale in Forest’s history. However, with Murillo recently signing a contract extension until 2029, the club had no intention of letting him leave mid-season.

Forest highlighted Murillo’s impact in a statement, recalling his rise from an unknown prospect to a defensive leader. The Brazilian made his debut against Brentford in October 2023 and was later named the club’s Player of the Season.

His consistent performances earned him a national team call-up in November, and he has played every Premier League minute this season except for one match at Goodison Park.

To date, Murillo has made 59 appearances for Forest, forming a formidable defensive partnership with Nikola Milenkovic. His commitment to the club remains firm, as Forest continue their push for a top-four finish.
