Tyrell Malacia has secured a loan move from Manchester United to PSV, expressing excitement about getting back to his best. The 25-year-old defender has endured a tough spell at Old Trafford, struggling with injuries since his 2022 transfer from Feyenoord.

Limited to just 47 appearances across all competitions, Malacia missed the entire 2023/24 season due to a severe knee injury.

Although he has returned to fitness this season, new United manager Ruben Amorim has opted for other options at left wing-back. Diogo Dalot, despite being naturally a right-back, has been preferred, while Patrick Dorgu has arrived from Lecce to strengthen the position further.

With game time looking unlikely in Manchester, Malacia has made the switch back to the Eredivisie, joining PSV until the end of the season.

Speaking at his unveiling on Tuesday, Malacia shared his optimism: “I’m happy to be here, finally playing good football again. Coming off a long injury, I feel fit and ready. The past months have made me stronger both physically and mentally.

I’ve gained patience, maturity, and a better understanding of my body. Now, I’m eager to give my all and help PSV win trophies.”

PSV’s Director of Football Affairs, Earnest Stewart, highlighted Malacia’s value to the team: “We are delighted to welcome Tyrell. His experience at the highest level and his potential make him a valuable addition. We look forward to seeing him in action.”

Although Malacia won’t be available for PSV’s cup clash against his former club Feyenoord on Wednesday, he could feature against Willem II on Saturday.

Manchester United acknowledged PSV’s strong season in their announcement of Malacia’s move, noting that the Dutch side leads the Eredivisie by two points and is preparing for a Champions League play-off against Juventus. The squad also boasts experienced names like Ivan Perisic and Luuk de Jong.

United wished Malacia well for the remainder of the season, as he aims to revive his career and contribute to PSV’s title charge.
